Five-Minute Friday: First

Little image I cooked up yesterday.
Little image I cooked up yesterday.

I am beginning to realize the extreme value in putting myself first for my family.

The last few days as the new year has gotten underway, this mama has been following her planned schedule. You know that schedule you put together of your ideal day. Yep, I’ve been following mine and my day is flowing and guess what? Mama is happier.

Because I’m showing myself that I’m important. I’ve been eating better simply because I’m honoring more of the commitments I made to myself, and thus to God. I feel much better about myself.

And getting to bed at a proper time is probably helping big time too.

So consider not just placing yourself on the priority list. Consider placing yourself first as a way to honor the spirit and soul God has placed within that beautiful vessel of a body. As a way to honor God with the care He took to make you so you could give what you give on a daily basis in this life, Mama.

  1. Stopping by from FMF… YES! I have always believed that flight attendant’s safety warning: “Put on your own oxygen mask before assisting others around you.” We cannot be of any good to anyone else if we aren’t being good to ourselves first. I am so glad you’come up with a way to put this idea into action. Getting enough sleep is key (and something that I am certainly not doing and always struggle with.) Good luck with keeping yourself at the top of the priority list!

  2. Way to go. I’ve been more intentional about taking care of myself this year too. So far – peppermint foot lotion before bed, a bath instead of a shower, a massage. Time in each day just to do something I enjoy. Keep going; it is so worth it. Not just for you, but for the people you live with, seeing you care for yourself.
